A light in the darknessby lilnukeeComment by Rooster: Yes, indeed, from the darkness... I like the way the candle does just that. Kinda soft focusy, which works. In this instance, maybe a boder could've added an extra umph. Not sure. |

Hot Java in the Morningby lilnukeeComment by zeuszen: This photo has two disparate subjects: the coffee mug with spoon in the foreground and a tree as part of a partly obscured landscape. The depth of field is so large that both the object closest to the lens and the tree (at a good distance away) are in focus.
This alone could, IMO, make for an interesting and apt juxtaposition, the two parallel planks, however, introduce yet another (middle-) plane to the image which add nothing but an obscuring distraction.
While the rendering of the two frontal objects is reasonably apt for the purpose, the choice of a multi-purpose mug together with a perspective which does not permit any insight into its contents, -hangs- the title, figuratively speaking. Neither is there any evidence of steam above it, which would be a reasonable expectation given the fact that the trees are bare.
The near central position of the dominant mug in this shot adds an almost brutal staticity.
The sensibilities of this photo strike me as either crude or hurried.

Hot Java in the Morningby lilnukeeComment by space amoeba: Very cool composition, and the black and white really works. Good DOF too. Only criticism is I would have liked to have seen loess of the top boarder, and more of the trees... |

Hot Java in the Morningby lilnukeeComment by LindaLee: I am a big fan of black and white, coffee, and the wonderful peace that seems to be conveyed by the landscape in your shot. With all of that, this photo has a lot of appeal to me on many levels! I would love to have seen a more dynamic composition with the placement of the mug and the spoon, but overall it has a nice tonal range and I like this shot very much. |
