The Unlit Lamp (Radclyffe Hall)by CatherineComment by ursula: Catherine, so this was your picture! IMHO it should have scored a lot higher. It's just beautiful. Pictures like yours tend to score a bit lower at this site, I'm guessing it's because people don't take (or don't have) the time to look slowly, but maybe it's something else. Who knows.

The Unlit Lamp (Radclyffe Hall)by CatherineComment by e301: Your first submission ... please please please don't be put off by the majority of voters - this is a place where siny designer photos do very well, and the intersting stuff tends to get hidden beneath that.
We need more people here with your sensibility of light and composition.

It's Like Money Down The Drainby CatherineComment by adine: nice how that one penny catches the light, focuses the theme. The shallow DOF heightens the effect. The bubbles help us see the claer water, and we catch a hint of drain underneath. nicely done. |

It's Like Money Down The Drainby CatherineComment by ScantyNebula: Fun idea :D I really think the penny on the top looks great - I would like to see the background brightened up a *little more, but not too much because the contrast between the top penny and the ones underneath does work. DOF nice. |

The Unlit Lamp (Radclyffe Hall)by CatherineComment by e301: Thoughtfully presented, and intriguing use of DOF to blur wat one would expect to be the real strength of this shot. I like the way it moves from a believable world - the texture of the in focus glass/metal - to the purely abstract over on the left; and the colours are good. The detail of that hook pulls far too much attention I think - oh, it's the edge of the filament, isn't it? - not convinced it should only have been partially shown, not sure what that achieves. |
