Sticking your neck out...by deemerComment by dirtkahuna: As a guitarist, I admire your attempt to capture something unique. Nice composition and focus. I'm not sure about the background - maybe it needed some color. |

A Good Start...by deemerComment by jmsetzler: maybe a tad out of focus, but the seemless background with the shallow depth of field works nicely here... |

A Good Start...by deemerComment by Konador: I think it is too centered in the frame, but I like the fact that the background is completly blurred out. 6 |

Blue Chariotby deemerComment by TooCool: This looks like your white balance settings were not quite right or you are under exposed. Either that or you have different kind of snow clouds then we have in Michigan. Our snow is white ;-)

A Good Start...by deemerComment by faidoi: Beautiful focus. The depth of field is incredible. I like the details in the wood grain. Great reflections in the icicle. |

A Good Start...by deemerComment by Imagineer: ... but a bad finish! Just kidding.
DOF is quite narrow on this which I find a bit distracting. You could have got closer to this if you're not interested in focusing on the surrounding snow, as there is a fair bit of 'dead zone' around the subject. Moving around the icicle to get some directional light would have yielded more form in the ice rather than backlighting it. |

A Good Start...by deemerComment by sonnyh: I love the "simplicity" of this photo. Very good capture with the snow on the roof and the icicle hanging down. Good job! |

Joshuaby deemerComment by amsmyth: Greetings from the Critique Club:
This image is a sort of collage of shapes and during the voting my reaction was that it is too busy, there is just too much going on. As far as meeting the challenge, then, it is hard to make a fit when the direction was to make the shape the primary subject of the image. It is also hard to feel that the kid is enjoying this experience with the downturned mouth and half-closed eyes. My suggestion would be use either the silliy glasses/nose orthe magnifying glass and keep the subject simpler. The image could use some overall sharpening and brightening as well. It's a fun idea and the fact that you and your son were playing around together could make a powerful and lasting image with some attention to the emotion you wish to present. |

Blue Chariotby deemerComment by kiwiness: The blue in the border clashes with the blues in the photo. I like the subject, I would have liked to see it less tightly cropped. |
