Looking at this the 3rd time, I'm still taken by the clarity and interest of the book and glass. While if it were mine, I'd probably crop to close in on those focal points, it isn't mine, it's yours, and it is well done. Still an 8

I find the edge of the lamp detracts from a really interesting shot. Perhaps if you had placed it close to the corner, rather than in front of his face...
