The HP # 3by TommyMoe21Comment by photom: Hi Tom and * Greetings from the Critique Club *
First - don't feel bad about not scoring higher in the "three's" challenge - it was one with gobs of very strong entries.
Your image is technically "perfect" - Exposure - right on, focus - tack sharp where needed, and a composition that "follows the rules."
So what the hay- why didn't it do a bit better? I don't know but I suspect it was mostly due to the competition - and the fact that this image just doesn't quite have enought "wow" factor. The metallic ribbon was a good attempt to add the "wow" but apparently didn't convince the voters. I had similar problem with my submission.
I know I didn't give you any magic formula with this critique - there wasn't really anything "wrong" with the image I could suggest correcting.
Keep thinking. Keep shooting. Keep sharing.
-Tom-

Wrap Around Bayby TommyMoe21Comment by e301: I'm a fan of this compositional technique, although i would personally try to bring the foreground at least into centre frame, if possible, or refrain. Would like to have seen a more interesting moment of light chosen for those stones' sake - there must be enormous texture and variation there that would be amphasised by a different quality of light; this has that high contrast hallmark of midday-ish light, lacking subtlety. 5 |

Wrap Around Bayby TommyMoe21Comment by melismatica: This place looks like a nice photo subject. The composition doesn't work for me; the line of the rocks just leads the eye around the rather dull trees and right out of the frame. The lighting is very ho-hum. Try returning to this scene at a time of day when the light is more dramatic. Also, pay attention to the objects in a composition that create imaginary lines and ask yourself if you have framed the scene in a way that uses these lines to the best advantage. |

The HP # 3by TommyMoe21Comment by redmoon: I'm half of those that gave you a ten for this, and i only gave 4 of them during this challenge. shocked it didn't do better - i mean it wasn't if you just took a picture of your keyboard; you made this an interesting, well composed and striking piece of art. i think some fellow voters have blinders on when faced with something seemingly mundane, and anything close to hand to the average internet user. but dammit, it's far from being that. anyway, i guess it's hard cheese matey, should've been a top tenner. |
