"The Nile Song" by Pink Floydby albright1Comment by karmat: CRITIQUE CLUB CRITIQUE
by karmat
COMPOSITION
At first, I did not really like the composition of this shot. I felt that it included too much "stuff" and could have been framed differently. After looking at it though, I decided that it did have some fairly strong points. The "rails" on the boat give a strong outline to the picture. As a result, the viewer tends to focus on face, more than the sunset, which may or may not have been what you intended. The subject is placed well in the frame, but I find myself wishing she was looking the other way, but I don't know if that was possible. Overall, I think the composition still feels slightly off balance.
TECHNIQUE
It seems a touch dark on my screen, but when I look closely, I can make out the details of her clothing, the seat cushions, etc. so it does not seem to be badly underexposed. I think a bit of brightness on her face would have helped a little bit. It is well focused, and I really like how you have captured the colors and the textures of the water.
OVERALL EFFECT
After getting over the shock of having the subject seem to be looking straight at you, it is a fairly effective shot. I am not familiar with the song you have chosen, and I have never been to Egypt, so I will take your "word" on it there. :-) The colors give it a very soothing feeling, and the water looks calm so that is also relaxing. Good work. |

OW! I HATE It When That Happens!!! by albright1Comment by RiderGal: This is absolutely great, and very funny! Nice job... I love theexpression on his face, and I think that the composition is excellent as well. The lighting is pretty good... I like the fact there is more light on the leeft side of the photo which I think adds to the pencil coming out of the guys nose. The one thing I might have tried to watch out for is the little red thing on his shirt... even though it is a tiny thing, it takes my eyes from his face quite a bit. Still a solid 9... good luck! |

Two Tribesby albright1Comment by jimmsp: Critique Club Critique
(1) COMPOSITION (CONTENT) â When I first look at this photo, my eye goes to the centered camel. Then it moves up to the background, moves right to the camel master (?), and finally to the left to the visiting couple. The people on the sides balance this out well. If I could have placed the young lady, Iâd like to see her closer to the center & the camel. I like the variation in color here.
(2) BACKGROUND â Good. A bright sky, but thatâs the way it is.
(3) CAMERA WORK ,TECHNICAL â Very good. Girlâs pink sweater is a tad bright from the low sun.
(4) DIGITAL PROCESSING ,TECHNICAL â No recommended changes.
(5) MY OPINION ON THE PHOTO â A great photo, and technically meets the challenge well, as the couple are âin a strange landâ for them. But they are not really the main subject here. That doesnât detract from the quality of the photo, but it might have affected the way some saw it as precisely meeting the challenge. (Iâm guessing here, how else to explain the 5âs?)

OW! I HATE It When That Happens!!! by albright1Comment by bamaster: hehe cute! Lighting is good, but the focus is soft... although I am finding many in this challenge are. I really like the background... nice tonal balance. Great exposure... what is that red thing on his shirt at the bottom there? dunno. (7) |

OW! I HATE It When That Happens!!! by albright1Comment by Jacko: That has to hurt! ha ha. An old classice. A bit too much shadow on the side of the face and the face looks a bit blurry. Other than that, nicely composed picture. Thanks for the chuckles. Jacko. |
