Very nice shot. Postcard perfect. You may get points off from others (not me) for a centered composition. They tend to vote down for that here. 10

I love that arch, I've driven past it twice, it just gives the city a lot of personality, which I think you've captured well here.

this is not what i'd really call a "challenge entry". you have shot a less than interesting subject dead-on center. the lighting looks under control, and the image is sharp enough under these conditions to indicate that you can do better...you just need to work on composition. keep in mind, not every image is going to appeal to every viewer; the key is, though, to create images that will give people more reasons to want to look at them than to just pass them by. and, when it comes to challenges, well, read scalvert's thread about the recipe for ribboning...

A tighter crop to remove whatever it is on the left and angling the photo up to remove the dark table would have helped IMHO. Good sharp image of the Ummm thing! lol

The problem here, I think, is that the bokeh doesn't enhance the picture. The bokeh is just bokeh and nothing more, and I think the point of the challenge is that the bokeh should be what makes the picture good. If you replaced the background in this one, it wouldn't be any worse or better.

Comment by ahaze:
The short definition of Bokeh from KenRockwell.com, which I am using for voting on this challenge: "Bokeh describes the rendition of out-of-focus points of light." Sorta have that here. Is the subject enhanced by the bokeh of the background? Not really. Can't tell what it is. Doesn't inspire or grab me.
