The frame distracts from a good image. The sky looks choppy, but could be a local meteorological condition I've never seen. Overall, I'll guess the presentation of the cityscape is some kind of filter. It's okay, but the frame is extra baggage.

composition is good, but direct flash on a "portrait" shot creates harsh shadows - notice under the arm and especially behind the head. Instead of using flash, opening up the camera to a higher Fstop (lower number) will allow better low light performance without the flash.

Beautiful flower, definitely appropriate for the challenge. I like the colors you've presented. But the processing makes the photo feel somehow flat, and the noise/grain in the background (namely at the top and bottom) distract from the smooth softness of the flower.

The crop feels cramped, I think this would have worked a little better zoomed back a bit, maybe even in landscape orientation. There's an unpleasant shadow at the back of the mother and down the right side of the girl's arm, a different light source may have helped, like a ceiling-bounced flashgun; the light as it is is a bit flat. A sweet idea though (I wish more parents would read to their kids these days!) and a lovely little girl.

focus seems to have hit below their faces, about where the stuffed animals head is.
