This could have been an interesting shot. But lighting wasn't your friend. The lighting is pretty harsh. It is from a direction that created minimal shadows, and hence the true texture wasn't revealed very much. IMHO, this would have been a better photo in natural light near sunrise or sunset when the light is low in the sky. That would bring out the texture. I am also curious about the background, black in the photo. What would have been revealed with higher ambient light?

Not sure what it is about this photo - maybe the emotive quality? Cute little old man fishing in crappy weather but looks like he is really enjoying himself. I love to talk to people like this. They always have the most interesting stories.
