This photo would merit contending for the ribbon if the background is a little farther away (giving it more DOF) or if it had a complete black background.

With that phrase on it, it belongs in the de-motivational challenge, where I feel it would have done much better than it is here. I find the overall image is too light, there are no real dark colours in this. Darkening this image would have impresed it significantly
