Comment by magnetic9999:
excellent closeup of a bird, but not the most well-rendered example of selective desat., i think the colors are not well suited - the bird doesn't look too different from black and white

Comment by nborton:
the bird looks a lot like a painting (not a good or bad thing, just an observation). if i were to recommend one thing, it would be to boost the contrast a little.

Comment by cghubbell:
I like the top - bottom balance of this, but I find the city to be the more interesting focus. Unfortunately, the foreground boat is what the image's composition and perspective emphasizes to me. Also feels hazy - some more lighting would and sharpness would bring out more of the architectural detail. Great idea - there is a lot of interest in this city scape.

Seems to me this picture is missing the EnCon building (and the Hudson River Way), but maybe it's just a bit farther up river. The striped bass are running, every morning on the way to work I see tons of boats out fishing :)

I'm sure the sky is often times like this over there, but it would really be a much better photo had there been some clouds or even dark rain clouds giving it an ominious look. But good overall composition.

Comment by moodville:
The image looks a little flat to me, possibly because of the muted colors from the overcast day. The composition is good and having the fisherman as a foreground element to the city backdrop is great. Unfortunately the image is a little soft/OOF and using USM may have helped a little.

Comment by Neil:
Looks familiar to me--I was just there yesterday ;) Nice composition, though some might argue this is not the best view of the city. Might have had more impact on a less gray day, with more color saturation. The fishing boat is important here--just so they don't eat the three headed fish. One nice thing I think about the capital district is we have such great blue skys much of the time, with lovely clouds. Ok, summer, anyway. ;)
