Reflecting Upon Religionby michael_pComment by ellamay: Hi new CC member going to give you my thoughts I hope they help.
Things that work well in my opinion are: the colors of the leaves, the mood of the shot , i.e. fog. the building is composed nicely in rule of thirds. The reflection and the title work well together to fit the challenge while producing a good photo.
My criticism would be the leaves in the foreground I am not sure that they add to your main subject. They are quite dark and some what overpowering and distracting. I would like to see a comparative shot anyway without them. The other possibility is that with them gone you could add more contrast to the building helping to stand out a bit more. Also allowing to see a bit more of the fall colors in the distant trees. Just my thoughts--happy shooting.

Reflecting Upon Religionby michael_pComment by Neuferland: This is a lovely shot overall but the lack of clarity on any one point is a bit distracting to me. And the mist in the back, I would have loved to see this on a clear day but sadly Mother Nature doesn't always work with us, does she? I love the colors and the way the trees on the top end up framing the tower on the building. The border is a bit heavy and dark for this shot but not too distracting. I started this at a 5 but am moving it to a 7 |

Faces from the fire: The biography of Sir Archibald McIndoe - Leonard Mosleyby michael_pComment by adine: the lack of focus on the subject and the relative focus on the leaves make me feel like I'm spying on this person, which is a bit of what we do when reading a biography. And I do see faces in the fire... it paints a contemplative moment. I'd crop on the right to tighten the composition - bring our attention to the center of the fire. I wonder how it would look sharp? |
