| 04/01/2004 08:01:27 PM | "Look@the stars, Look@ the sea, Look@ the flowers then compare them to me, I'm Pretty!"by RoosterComment by KarenB: a cute child... but please allow me to critique this as if it were my own photograph. I work in a portrait studio and take mostly photos of small children, and I am very hard on myself:
The first thing I notice is the bottom of her shoes. It is always best to avoid this. Turning the child to one side, and hiding the bottom of one foot (the leg furthest from the camera) by tucking it against the inner side of the leg closest to the camera usually does this. I really like how she is holding her feet, so that is a plus.
The second biggest thing I notice is the moisture on her chin. A shiny area due to drool is the biggest problem to avoid at this age, yet is one of the most important things to avoid. The lighting is done beautifully. And you caught the reflection in her eyes wonderfully. Also, her head is turned at a nice angle..to be almost a profile, yet her head is thrown too far back. I also don't like the tongue out with this expression on her face.
The seamless background was done very well, but the top right corner could have been edited further to make that smooth as well.
Overall, I would probably rate this between a 6 - 8.
I think you have a good thing going here. With these suggestions in mind, you have the makings of perfection in future.

| 03/30/2004 12:16:12 AM | TIME MAGAZINE: "One Year Later New Yorkers Rally For Peace"by RoosterComment by Rooster: Thanks guys!
I really wanted to use a different shot that was less political but this was the best shot out of the bunch so I used it. I knew that I would get a mess of one's for it & I was willing to take the heat. I'm surprised I got only one negative comment. I was certainly expecting more. More one's too but I guess people were kind!
Anyway, I've been getting reamed for the shots from the rally, especially on my pbase account but I don't care. I loved the shots I took, had fun doing it & I don't care if some don't like it. I feel okay with that!
Cheers everyone! Message edited by author 2004-03-30 00:17:15. |
