Vibrant Winterby Carlo21Comment by Carlo21: Actually the shutter speed was more of a what if scenario. There were a bunch of bees flying in an out pretty quickly so I figured that I may get lucky with on of the snaps. I did catch a couple of bees but they were OOF.
Originally posted by Melethia: This one scored well, especially as a flower in a free study. What it has going for it - good rich vibrant color, good simple (but not too simple) composition, very good detail and effective use of DOF. There's very little noise - Canons are good at that at higher ISOs - but in looking at your settings you could have easily cranked the ISO down a few and still had a good shutter speed. (Then again, if you're like me, you have it set for something and forget to change it. I do that all the time.) |

February - Valentine's Day (Aperture Rose) DPC Calendar - Photography Terms in Natureby Carlo21Comment by Melethia: Very good idea for a calendar, actually! This scored pretty well (in my book, anything over 5.5 is "well") and may have scored even better had your background been a lighter color or had you used a more squarish crop. There appears to be a reflection, but it's somewhat muddied in nature and detracts a bit rather than supports the shot - does that make sense? Darn perfect rose, I might add. |

60"by Carlo21Comment by Melethia: I see you've already learned the art of the tripod and slow shutter for deep depth of field! This is a good DPC shot - clean, simple, meets the challenge well. I do like how the editing emphasizes the bit of shadow - that gives it a bit more "foundation" than just purely floating on a white background. |
