A cute subjet for the sentimental tone of soft focus. They'd look even cuter propped on a bed with a fluffy pillow, perhaps some flowered wallpaper behind. The anonymous green sheet just doesn't add anything.

While I'm no means a professional or 'good' photography, I agree with what nshapiro wrote. I noticed that you could not see the dog's left ear very well, making note that the right side was a little dark. Also noticable was the contrast on the dogs nose (I think I'm stating this properly). I would have not noticed the lines in the background, but that just shows that more than one person critique'ing is a good thing.

I think you did a fine job with this! The light is perfect for online viewing, but you might find it prints a bit too dark on the right. A small fill light would keep the side lighting look while providing a bit more tone and detail on the right. And perhaps let you lower the exposure another 1/2 stop or so, in order to avoid what looks like overexposed areas on the left.

One other idea: Edit out that vertical line in the background on the left. Just replace the background with a nice gradient or clone to make it even. (Part of the problem with the line, if it stays, is that it is tilted).
