I have to say that I cannot even begin to comprehend how this image didn't finish MUCH higher. Great colour, composition, detail, use of shallow DOF (I love the bokeh) ... all excellent. Perhaps a tad soft at the end of the branch, but no way deserving of the punishment it got from voters. I think your title describes your treatment from the voters... "Ouch" indeed. :(
