Find your light - outdoor natural lighting portraitsby KelliComment by sjhuls: Portraits are hard, from what I have learned so far people will be pretty tough on a portrait that isn't absolutely perfect. Here are a couple things I noticed that may have hurt your score: The crop is a bit tight, it doesn't bother me too much but I can see others marking down for it. Overall it lacks sharpness, the eyes especially need to be sharp, if you apply a skin smoothing plug-in you need to make sure to do it on a new layer and then mask over the eyes so they stay sharp. The skin smoothing technique that you used is nice, but I usually have to go back in and clean up areas manually with the clone tool or spot remover tool. Her forehead and under her eyes may have benefited from a little evening out (think of it kind of like applying make-up) Removing moles with the spot editing tool is a matter of choice sometimes I do, sometimes I don't, I think they are fine here, but I would have cleaned up the area around her nose a bit.
Overall I like her quirky look and the lighting is very nice, and wow! what gorgeous green eyes. I hope you don't mind this long critique. Only doing it to try and be helpful, so hopefully it will come off that way. |

Find your light - outdoor natural lighting portraitsby KelliComment by Ja-9: you had asked why...I gave you a 7 for this. Here are my reasons. The cutoff ear and the claw clip at the top distract me. Finally the whole face should be super sharp in focus, this is very soft in the focusing (IMO). A high f-stop and shutter speed should take care of that soft focus giving alot more detail to the portrait.
ETA: one other thing really bothered me on this...her hair color at the roots vs the ends (I'm a hairdresser) therefore it kind of stands out especially to me...sorry Message edited by author 2011-07-25 10:01:08. |
