LOL! What a novel approach to the challenge! From the scores, it looks like some folks just don't step outside their boxes too often, do they? It may be title-dependent, but this is very clever - your shots show great imagination. Colors are very nice and rich - I like the yellow of the house with the blue of the water and green of the trees. I'd have given this a 6 or a 7. |

I don't know whether this was coached or you just got lucky, but she certainly has that "I'm too sexy for my floatie device" look going for her! A bit "snapshot centered" - some open space to the right and less on the left would create a pleasing balance (or so the photo books tell me). I like the lighting but wish there was a tad more on her face, and I like the colors - rich and vibrant. WAY underscored, but I suspect a lot of that was DNMC votes. I really do like her look! |

Permanently Docked - USS New Jerseyby KelliComment by Kelli: Originally posted by timfythetoo: Trading Post - I know this is basc editing but I think it would be possible to use thos erules and make this image stand out a bit more. You hav egood colors to work with and pretty good detail in the boat. I may play with this one a bit if you dont mind. Fits the challenge but overall isnt a stand out image as it stands to help it garner the higher scores. |

Tsunamiby KelliComment by chalice: I like the concept behind this photo and the visual cliff formed at waters edge. The colors are rich - the greens and blue are very compatible and pleasing. I do think that the site of this picture is busy because of all the trees. The simplicity of the water doesn't carry over into the background. Now I realize that you can't go around changing trees, houses, and the like, but I do think it makes the concept harder to execute when there is so much going on in the background. This photo definitely has a unique perspective going for it. |

Perfect Starby KelliComment by timfythetoo: Trading POst - Nice shot. These are so tough to catch in full frame. You caughta nice combo of fireworks and the star is cool. Had it not been so tight and out of frame you would have scored better I believe. A tweak inthe sat onthe red channel may have helped it be a bit morevibrant as well. Good shot overall though. |

Future 10by KelliComment by digitalknight: centered composition - blown highlights - obviously a candid (not posed) - shoe-horned into the challenge with a title. I'm guessing this isn't doing well for you.
What would make this better - in my opinion
Frame her left so she's looking across 2/3 of the photo of empty grass
Take a meter reading before you start shooting - realize that your camera meter is shooting the high and set your EV compensation to -0.3 so the highlights stay in control
Look at the light in her face - and the hightlights in her eyes - make her stop - look that direction, and get right into her face so we can see those beautiful eyes and the catch lights in them. (again, framed slightly off center)
These are things that I have found started turning my photos from snapshots into photos that I was really proud of. If this is your daughter I'm sure you're proud anyway - she is beautiful -
Not all precious photos are beautiful photos, not all beautiful photos are precious.
I hope this is helpful. |
