I like the background you're using, and the blue is complimentary to the red candles (plus, it's my favorite color). But be careful... I'm seeing some "halos" around the edges of the candles. Maybe using Unsharp Mask??? Look for those and try to tone down a little bit, until the edges look more natural. (In a relatively newcomer's opinion)

Oh, and you may want to try adding some light from the front to highlight the candles some. Any light would work. Doesn't have to be a flash. |

I would suggest trying f/5.6 or so on your next portrait, that way you'll have more DOF and those pretty blue eyes won't be so soft...
