we the living by Ayn Randby jmritzComment by dtremain: Comment Challenge: The image has some problems, but I like that it breaks enough rules that it portrays everyday life, rather than an idealized fantasy. However, for me, that does not quite overcome the "flaws". For example, it looks like he has on headphones, but with only one pad covering an ear. Where the other pad is isn't clear - at first the outdoor light behind and above the other side of his head looks like it, but no. The door closer sits like a box on this shoulder, competing with his face in lightness and emphasis. The purpose of the bag he's holding isn't clear, nor is its decoration, nor contents. The soffet on the right side of the picture is a clear feature, and it leads the viewer's eye to...uh the bottom edge of the picture. Even if all these "flaws" were deliberate choices, for me, the combined impact has more to do with frozen in time than with living. |

we the living by Ayn Randby jmritzComment by mariuca: I did not read this book but know that it is mightily anticommunist and quasi autobiographical.
Therefore, I really cannot make any comment on the suitability of your shot. There is not much to inform me here of the book.
As a free standing photo I find the point of view interesting, the man's expression quite absorbing and an interesting battle of shapes in the background. I would crop a lot from the upper part.

Seriously though, the book wasn't about fast food workers.

we the living by Ayn Randby jmritzComment by RyanW: This certainly seems like a willful free-spirit.
i like the candidness of this image, and the possible stories that this could be telling.
