One this I enjoyed when visiting Jordan and going to the Wadi Rum (Laurance of Arabia site) was that you could see the all the stages of mountains deteriorting into sand, very impressive.

This doesn't cut it. It lacks imagination and it does not truly capture a serendipidous moment.

Nice close up of an eye but nothing to do with serendipity for me I am afraid (Finding someone has an eye is not an unexpected surprise)

Serendipity? I think the choice of duotones is a bad one.

The eye open a bit wider would help emphasize the surprise bit of it.

Clear shot! I would have preferred seeing in this pic what was it that was so surprising!

Doesn't look very surprised, if that's the intent, nor do I see serendipity represented here.

Good choice to go B&W with this image. Maybe add a black border? Also to solve the light reflection in the eyes problem, an fun trick I learned was if you get a bundle of standard issue christmas lights (like you put on your tree), and leave them on the "rack" they come in, you can create amazing "twinkles" in a person's eye by casting hundreds of tiny points of light. It also provides a great soft fill light if you ever need it because it falls off quickly. (7)

Focus is a little soft. Might have been from the meter set lens.
