Great DOF with the looming figure in the background. The lighting is just enough to give us a hint of what's going on. Great use of red.

That was the point of the shot. I wanted to place emphasis on the cow in the foreground. Having a deeper DOF would have made the 2 cows in focus and the eyes would have constantly been travelling between the two. My intention was to emphasize the front cow's facial pattern.

Thanks for the suggestion, but I really think that such a crop would have made for a pretty ho-hum composition. I think I like this composition better.

Afraid your cows are lost at sea, you have really lost too much detail in the shadows, because your exposure was set for the bright relections. Fill flash might have helped


Thanks for the suggestion, but I doubt fill flash would have helped since I was working at 300mm on a very bright winter's afternoon.
