Every Mother's Hopeby newtune3Comment by JJacobson: This strikes me as touching, with decent lighting. However, I hate abercrombie! I applied for a job there, and the manager tried to convince me that the people working there were doing it for the social life. He also tried to convince me that they enjoyed having to work six days a week, regardless of full or part time. He then tried to tell me that my current pay of 11.62 an hour was probably not what I would make there, (despite my 2 BAs and an acceptance into a master's program!) Did I mention, I hate abercrombie?
Also, the woman in the shot is mid scentence, and the child needs a better angel to be photographed.
I hope I didn't offend anyone. |

Every Mother's Hopeby newtune3Comment by Artyste: Nice portraiture. The mother seems .. more sad than hopeful of her son's future. Not sure if this was purposeful. Image could benefit from better centering. |

Tired, Hot, Dustyby newtune3Comment by Tranquil: Greetings from the Critique Club
Unfortunately, I have to agree with some of your commenters at the lack of interest in the subject of your shot. They are shoes and sometimes simplicity is very effective but unfortunately not in this situation. This is partially due to the crop which is a little bit unflattering leaving only the tops of your shoes.
The focus on the right shoe (crossed over so on the left side of the frame) is good. The DOF is deep enough to get some of the other shoe in focus which works nicely and it is also shallow enough to blur the background. The exposure is also done nicely, although the shadows could have been a tad brighter.
Overall, I believe that this image suffered from the lack of interest in it seen by the voters. In the future, it might be good to ask those around you for their input as everyday people. They'll tell you flat out if it is appealing or not. So this is a below average shot for you but we all make mistakes so better luck next time.
If you have any questions comments are concerns feel free to PM me.

Fire in Augustby newtune3Comment by jbsmithana: One of my top two and a 10 in my book. It stands out in this competition as very different subject and composition. A great change from the standard flower shots. I can't explain the whys but this shot just draws my interest. I kept going back to it. Great job! |
