To Be One With The Seaby
PoobaComment by jpochard: Hello from the Critique Club.
I usually try to figure out which challenge a CC photo came from before I look to see which one it is. It helps me to determine how the photo fits into the challenge. I really thought this was "Abstract", although I think we may still be voting on that.
As an abstract, I do like this very much. The diagonals on the right, the feel of motion, the smoothness of the "wave" in areas...along with the colors - all really work well together for a pleasing shot. I would probably have cropped just slightly more from the top. The small curl of wave, just above the darker spot (which is just above the reflecting area) has just the top portion cut off, which I find a bit distracting. I would have cropped just above the dark area, as I think it brings the eye more to the central part of the photo.
Technically, I think the blur really does work here. It feels more like motion to me, less like out of focus and I think that is an important distinction. Exposure seems excellent. Some might think a bit dark, but I think the details are there and I personally like the darker shades to the shot.
For the fantasy challenge, I don't believe there is a strong connection. I wouldn't go so far as to say it doesn't meet the challenge - but I wouldn't give extra points for a strong connection. If I voted, I probably would have given this shot a 7.
Hope this is helpful!
