Just a quick technical question. Reading Harvey's comment, it suggests you did the BG in pp (the monochrome). When I looked at the image I thought the BG colors were natural? Just curios, either way I like the shot.

The BG colours are natural no desaturating in pp at all.

I love beech leaves in winter. They provide a wonderful bit of color to the drabness of the woods. The background on this is a bit busy but the details in the leaves are nicely captured

Love the DoF. The leaves actually look "soft" as opposed to hard and crunchy. Nice capture.

I like how the light from underneath is giving a lot of definition to the leaves.

I like the selective desat here. It is both sharp and complimentary to the grey in the BG. It is almost a 160mm f/2.8 on the D90 so for candids it gives you some unobtrusive reach to :)

I battle to do that, leave lenses at home. I generally break my back with 10 lbs (5 kgs) of glass in a LowePro.
I don't have this little gem of a lens and I am oh so keen to get a copy as my Sigma 180mm f/3.5 macro is a bicep buster.

Natural and delicate hues against nearly monochromatic background. Pleasing result. I suggest testing yourself and venturing out frequently with only the 105 macro and explore.

Dramatic dance of delicacy and black buds under a shade of winter.

Hehe. Good catch with some targeted texture in the tree to add interest.
