Hmm. I didn't vote on this challenge, but had I done so, I suspect your bell curve might have been more perfect with the addition of a 9.

So, what's the distraction? The wing? In my eyes, the wing provides a context and form that defines the composition. The texture overlay? The texture is effective in creating mood, but not sure it's distracting? The deep blacks at the bottom of the image obscure the landform below allowing conjecture... I'm not the only one who saw Rome below - likely due to the title. I'm with pixelpig about the distraction. The title's the most distracting part. Lovely work!

A good photograph is one that I can come back to--for more of what attracted my eye the first time, & for new visual pleasures every next time. This lovely comp creates mystery & suspense, & tactile visual detail all combined in perfect harmony. The recognizable airplane wing anchors the comp in reality, giving my eye a departure point it can return to again & again. The tones, shapes, lines--all combined together perfectly. Good work.

And it was taken with the iPhone 5S! Even better!

The distracting element for me in this comp is the title. It's a mystery.

Winner!! Absolutely intriguing image. Very clear water. The lonely fisher sitting on his rock, with matching colors still standing out from his surroundings. A 9 from me.

Anita, I cannot see why this didn't do better. On initial view, I wasn't sure I liked the graininess, but after simply staring at it a while, I can't imagine it without it. it adds to the raw feel of this mountaintop moment of nature in all her glory. Severely underrated IMNSHO.

Things I like abou this image: nearly everything. Things that could be improved: the subject isn't that interesting but I'm guessing you could do nothing about that. Overall a very nice image that should have done better.
