Hi Phil, and welcome to DPC! A good first entry - don't be intimidated by the score. You picked a pretty good subject to meet the challenge. The presentation is a bit "stiff" (heh - I do realize that's a bit of a pun) and static - there's no real energy to the presentation - does that make sense? The light appears to be from a flash and just a bit harsh, though not too bad. I like that you got down to the level of the rose to shoot rather from shooting above, but would have preferred you not chop off the side of the bloom. I know you were probably trying to keep the stem in the shot for completeness, but the full bloom is a bit more important. Good focus on your subject and nice DOF to have the rest fade off a bit.
