I really like the tone, composition, and the DOF -- lovely bokeh. I agree it would benefit from sharper focus on the branches and drops. But still, it's a very nice and delicate image.

I loved this photo and it came out just as I wanted. So the 'barely in focus' was on purpose. I thought it gave a lacey feel to the photo. I was very pleased with the way it turned out, which of course, is why I submitted it. ;-) Oh, and Corey, I have a hard time with titles so your comment was very helpful - but I just didn't know what to name it.

This might have gotten a pretty low score, but I have little doubt it was entirely on technical issues... Quite frankly this is a really cool photo that just has a few flaws. What a brave and interesting entry!

Welcome to DPC. LOL, love it, your first entry and you pick a pile of trash!

Well, despite the possibility that voters were lashing out at you because of your 'self-described trash habits' (joking-joking!) let's look at some of the other stuff.

Okay, this is a nice record shot, a keepsake from schooldays. It's a little fuzzy.

Since you're dealing with a pile of inanimate material, consider it as story ready to be told at your leisure. Move around, experiment with apertures, depth of field, and see what is really interesting in there. You had the story in your head, my suggestion is to build your story around this pile of trash: show what it really represents-- try to find a focal point, one or more items that really tell the story, or maybe an angle that shows off what you want to display.

the technical details will come as you use your equipment; the story-telling can be the exciting part.

Good luck in the Challenges. I look forward to seeing more of your art.
