Sorrow for the Lostby MinsoPhotoComment by sfalice: GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB
You created some nice soft, yet warm tones in this image.
On composition, my suggestion would be to either include more of the pedestal on which your statue sits, or none of it. There is a distracting white line at the bottom edge, so in this instance, you might consider cropping at the kneeling line.
Overall, finding a little more area for sharper focus would give this image a little 'pop'. Also, to give the statue more modeling you might think about adjusting the lighting on it with a reflector or the like, if the Sun isn't cooperating.
Keep on trying and yes, it gets easier as you learn the process of post-processing. |

Full moon risingby MinsoPhotoComment by MinsoPhoto: Originally posted by MelonMusketeer: Looking at your shooting info, iso100, .5sec @ f4.5? The moon looks like maybe iso 100 1/500sec f 4.5. At the settings that you posted, the moon would be overexposed, unless you were using a neutral density filter.
The dark halo may be from using too much highlight reduction. That happens with my shots too, and I have learned to watch for it when processing images.
To get better overall sharpness for a moon shot with foreground, a much smaller aperture value, like f16 would be helpful. That would increase the depth of field, which is pretty narrow with a 300mm at f4.5.
Welcome to DPC. I have learned a lot about shooting here, and I hope you enjoy the site as much as I have. |
Thank you for the advice. I will have to give it another shot with the settings you suggested. This was my first outing shooting the moon and I never realized how bright it really is. Thank you for the comment. I was not using a ND filter (don't have one but that will be my next purchase to shoot the waterfalls around here) |

BW:Bby MinsoPhotoComment by justine: Grainy-- but that is not a bad thing. IMHO here since it's a bubble crystal clear would of served a bit better. |
