I really think this photo was grossly underrated. Very nice shot.

I like the colors and detail, but a bit overdone IMO on the HDR.

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that the colours are nice and vivid and there is a lot of detail showing through. I also notice the tilt.

Technically this is ok. The colours, while vivid, are a little unnatural. That's Topaz for you. The POV has put the buildings on a slant and that is one of the first things I thought when I saw the shot. A rotate may have solved it. It's best to try not to have something like that be what people think on first impression as that's what will stick in their mind and they will vote accordingly.

Artistically this doesn't say much. It shows good detail in the building but thats it. I'm also not sure if it meets the challenge that well.

In summary an ok shot that scored around the right range IMO.

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Sorry about the wait for your critique, this is coming out of the backlog!

I see you're a fellow Rebel XS user! There's very few of us around that submit to challenges. You received some good comments during and after the challenge. The composition is good, diagonal lines are always good. I've never taken any pictures of the moon so I can't really give any helpful advice as to camera settings or anything.

The only major thing bringing down your image is the black ring around the moon. It kind of gives it a fake feel, as if it's a shadow and the sky is a backdrop. Anyways I think without that ring and even if you kept the foreground more in a silhouette style you would have placed better in the moon challenge.

If you have any questions click here to message me!

Talk about telling a story! great shot. If I was to pick on anything I would have liked to seen the ring in focus too, seeing as it really is the focus of the title. Minor flaw IMHO though. Fabulous!

Greetings from the Critique Club.

First impressions are that processing is what this shot is about, rather than the shot itself.

Technically the processing is poor. Some may like the cartoon style photomatix can produce and in some cases it works but for a still life with fruit, I don't think so. If it weren't for this processing you would have a much higher score as the composition is good and the lighting seems fine.

Artistically placement of the fruit is good and the candles are a really nice addition. The background could be blurred some more to enhance the separation. The border is too much I feel, it's always best to go for less when adding borders for DPC shots.

In summary this could have been a great shot but the use of your processing technique cost you a full point. Even so, a new PB can't be bad can it? ;)

Feel free to PM me if you have any queries.
