GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

Hello again. Yes, there really are other members of the Critique Club active at this time. Your images just seem to come up when I click the "Give me an image to critique" button. Although I do see Snaffles did get a crack at one of your images. Actually it's hard for us to tell if you have read them, as you don't mark any of them "helpful." but we'll keep trying if your image comes up in the queue.

Okay, back to work. Of course this is a cute image and I hope you didn't harm any of your glass. It is nicely seen and photographed although it probably would have been fun to see the primary, familiar Canon white lens off center perhaps a bit more, rather than dead center. But you selected that story-telling aspect as the best one to show off your idea and you were there and know what you could do in the scene.

certainly you are getting after the challenge compliments and that is always a welcome sight to see.

I will continue to look forward to seeing more of your work.

This is fabulous! Feels like too much Topaz for my taste, but absolutely love how you composed this. Good lines and shapes, and use of DOF to show them off.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Interestingly enough, my dad was an OB/GYN, so funny that I end up with this shot to critique!

My main reaction to this shot is great concept but lacking in execution. The hands forming a heart are great, the composition certainly fills the frame (please don't tell your wife that! :-) The rings at almost perfect 1/3s towards lower right are wonderful. Your settings look like you're erring on the side of caution. Low ISO is good, shutter fast enough, plenty of dof. Maybe too much so? I feel here that the voters voted mostly on sentiment, because the photo is in focus and not too bad otherwise.

But I feel what killed this shot is the lighting. It looks harsh, almost fluorescent. My dad used to get all the medical journals and though the photos were very informative, iI know now that they were very lacking in photographic terms! Any light that casts a bluish cast on human skin, regardless of ethnicitiy, just doesn't look right.

FWIW, I would have tried to shoot either in natural daylight or with incandescents, then run a little bit of warming filter over the shot to give it a more natural glow.

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

GREETINGS FROM THE CRITIQUE CLUB

My goodness you get around this country of ours. San Francisco for our famous bridge, and now a ship in Texas... What a pretty model you found for this interesting portrait. Nice processing on her face and she posed very well for you.

My first impression of this portrait (as a Critique Club member) was "what is that brown out-of-focus thing on the left?" It took a moment to get to the main attraction - your model. To make this a really successful image, you might think about de-emphasizing the ship's wheel to focus on what is, I think, your main subject.

It is good to see your work again, and I look forward to more images from you.

I hope this brief critique was helpful to you.

What a backdrop and setting. I think a lower angle (not much more - jst to be placed more against the Brown/white field) would have helped a bit to bring this chair more into view. Processing works fro this shot
