This is a very instructive photograph. Your pointedly ignoring several 'rules' (the leaden rule-of-thirds, get in closer, don't crop the head, and the conventional portrait format) has resulted in a much stronger and more eloquent picture than would have resulted from mindlessly observing those rules. The picture has a restlessness, a sense of not being 'done', that elevates it above the conventional.

Even the stylized frame is not an indulgence here, because it reinforces the impression of the photograph having been wrested from the moment, rather than dispassionately excised from it. Plus it provides a nicely negligent vignette. Thank you.

Really like the mist, b/w, and grain. The layered hills are great. 10

One expects to see an oasis in a desert, and to see water in that oasis, so I had a hard time connecting the title to the photo.

How incredibly exotic yet oddly familiar. The structure looks so alien there. LOVE the grain

GOOD GRIEF! Now I'll have that song in my head all day. I didn't realize it was also a book title, but I did a search and there are more than one. I like the hint of grain. Gives it a sense of a distant memory. 7

I'm going through the entries, stopping at those images I feel have had the benefit of an unconventional eye and dwelling a little longer to try to see and appreciate what you saw. This is one of those images.

Positives: Really interesting POV - makes me tip my head back just looking at it! I particularly like the sort-of-blurry-flowness of the main column. You really get a sense of how close to one another these things are.

Critical stuff: The toning - perhaps you were maintaining detail in the columns but the low contrast in the image makes it looks a little flat.

Overall: A nicely seen image but for me the edit robs it of some needed drama.
