I think black and white was a good choice for this. It adds solemnity to the shot, and helps to eliminate what could possibly be distracting colors in the background. The focus is very clear and that helps to make the shot strong, in one sense.

I think many people did not understand the connection to the challenge, adn that may have hurt your score. I, for one, thought maybe Qualcomm was going out of business (which alarmed me, somewhat,as that is who made my cell phone), but wasn't sure. I also thought maybe there was something about telling the dog bye.

Perhaps you could have used a shallower depth of field to add some interest to the story behind the shot. If the man and dog were as clear as they are now, then the "QUALCOMM" part of the sign was blurry, it would be like the stadium was fading from view. But, that is just a thought.

I believe this shot may have worked even better without the title...or a much shorter one...like say..."Ring?" well done crop and angle though and good use of B&W. Good Luck!

A difficult capture because of the velvet; unfortunately, it is too dark there, and you can't even see the slot for the ring. I would have liked to see the skin tones evened out here for aesthetic effect, e.g., with Neat Image, though I realize they are natural for a closeup like this.

Personally, this is not my interpretation of the challenge. I understand how some people think that, but I feel it was the "easiest way out" in a difficult challenge.

such a terrible suprise, a genious couldn't have done better. perhaps though, i'm guessing this was a staged photo..lol, the box could have been cleaned up a bit more....

What a great smile. He's a little beauty. The b&w works well in your image. The only thing that is a little distracting is the white background up the top of the image. But overall a great classic photograph. Well done.
