green and redby prashant_168Comment by prashant_168: @Janine : setup is pretty simple, I used a 30mm extension tube. Setup the camera on tripod. used a syring to get water dropelets and kept an object, whose refraction you wish to see in the following order.
Camera -- syring--flower
* Maintain distance between flower and camera such that you see a good brokeh ( approx 1 feet ).
* Put the syring in between where focus is.
* Press syring to get water slowly and keep pressing the shutter.
* If you have someone else holding the syring, it would be better.

Joy of a daughterby prashant_168Comment by smardaz: Originally posted by prashant_168: @Jason, I feel a lot of people are dpc-type casted.
we hate when a border is "different", we hate when rule of third is missed by 1/2 a cm and so on.
I still think the border is good.I had printed this pic and gifted to my friend with a colored frame resembling the border here. Everyone like it...
Basically people only noted the border, no one cared about the expression caught or the lack of contrast.
To me those were the two key things...
This photo does NOT deserve 4.5, so I am just taking +ve out of it :)
In general, I have learned everything here and I appreciate/respect their feedback. |
I get what you're saying and if someone you gave this to loves it then that is great! However submitting it to a challenge we cannot be expected to take that into consideration. I think, in general, you will find most serious photographers will not like a border, especailly one like this. For me, I feel it adds nothing to the image. A portrait of a mother and her child is beautiful enough to stand on its own. But again, these are just my thoughts. Everyone is different. |
