I'm not sure if anyone else can see this, but I see all these blotchy marks like some serious banding around the left egg, is it my monitor or not, not sure??

"If your weather and location cooperate, shoot the total eclipse of the moon."
I must say I'm disappointed Alex.
You're weather cooperated but your location did not. This is not a question of bending the rules (or even the perceived lack of understanding/grey area of the description), art, artistry and later justification of DMC/DNMC and Forum Fights, but your integrity.

getting the eggs in the same plane while blurring out the flag in the middle - i would have thought some tilt shiftyness but not so eh?

Amateur astronomer for 35 years here. Naturally, I've seen many eclipses and this could definitely look like one, with some added processing for fanciness. In fact, your image, which I rated higher because you included context (Spica), can look exactly the same with some small amount of processing. Of course that's not how it looks in the sky, but still a good one - astrophotography is not always about faithful reproduction. That's why I think Alex's photo is an interesting effort.

I don't think it's fair to speak about voters other than yourself. And anyway, if you say you know how an eclipsed Moon should look and this is not it, then I guess you were not deceived by this photo.

By the way, Spica is not an optical but a spectroscopic binary star (this is for the comment on Wendy's photo), so you can't tell if it is a binary from looking at a photo.

Sorry Alex for abusing this space...

But, that's not the way a total lunar eclipse looks. I guess no one seems to care.

I disagree with both these statements. A lunar eclipse can look like this. And giving this image high votes does NOT mean people don't care. It's a good artist's impression of a lunar eclipse.

Richard since you are not very polite man (sending messages and not letting me answer is a clear sign of that) I'd like not reading the verb 'deceive' from you here anymore.
