Summer Figs & Wineby mefnjComment by mariuca: A lot to say about this image. In any case, it cannot be ignored, to say the least.
It tells too much. For instance, cut the top part, goblet, green drapery, vase, and the picture becomes IMHO a lot more powerful.
When the fashion for textured walls was in full bloom, meaning sponging, glaze, etc., it was used with abandon on all surfaces in commercial spaces or private homes without this "respiro" that Italians taught us (the neutral grey, the moment of pause). But the bottom part of this photo is using the texture plenty but in the same chromatic palette, so it's rich and does not need anything else. Your green velvety background tends to be this "respiro" but it's not, it's one more color behind a very colorful vase.
A long story here. But good photos are subject of good pondering. |
