Seems very much a snapshot I'm afraid. The subject seems pushed to far over at the edge of the frame and the harsh midday lighting is working against it. There are a few editing tricks that might be able to help with those bright highlights. Some careful use of curves, or some burning, perhaps. I would probably try some adjustments on a duplicate layer, since this is advanced editing, that would be allowable.

Clearly shows drama, or sadness in this case. Technically, the composition isn't strong and the BG distracts from your main subjects.
