Iridescent Instrumentsby
samchangularComment by ericwoo: Hey there from the Critique Club
First of all, welcome to DPC. People around here shoot for all different reasons. Some shoot for scores, some shoot to share their work, some start here and move on to greater things. Whatever your reasons for signing up were, welcome. I hope you decide to stick around and shoot more.
Camera Work/Technical: I do see your primary are of focus here, and I can appreciate the reflection of the various colors bleeding into one. I can also see how other users and voters could believe that those technical aspects were off, as well. I think your title explains the intention of the technicals.
Lighting: I like the lighting in your image. In fact, I think that it is the single strength that adds interest and depth. It is a bit of an abstraction, at least somewhat.
Composition/Content: Content...I am neutral. The image does depict kitchen instruments. Composition...feels very uncomfortable. Leaving empty space at the top and chopping the tools off at the bottom of the frame gives more of an accidental feeling to the composition than one of intention. I think the composition is perhaps the largest perceived weakness of the capture.
My Opinion: 4.02 is a starting place at least. I cannot say that I disagree with the voters on this one, but entry into challenges alone is worth merit. I would have scored it in the 4 to 5 range, so I think the voters hot the mark with this one. Now you have your first entry in, and you see how voters cast their numbers. Again, it all depends on why you shoot. Do you shoot for the scores or for capturing images you like? Welcome.
Thank you for the opportunity to provide a critique on your entry,
Eric
