Greetings from the Critique Club ;)

Artistic Merit
Pros:
* Natural whites and blacks work very well. They are the strongest source of contrast that you can access. Like soft and sharp.
* This composition is an inverted triangle which is more adequate to dinamic photos where there is more visual energy flowing. Here it's a bit unstable and uneasy.
Cons:
* Failure to satisfactorily isolate the subject from the leaves in the background demands a different framing. Like kellyo mentioned, a much closer crop would have solved a lot of the issues with this photo. Loosing the saturation would also work almost completely in hiding them also. Remember that presented with an almost B&W scene, our eyes will scan for color.

Technical Merit
Pros:
* Lighting on the subject is well controlled and very even.
Cons:
* There isn't enough DOF to cover the whole subject. What little is focused is almost on the edge of the frame where the eyes don't rest easily.
* A bit more constrast to darken some visible elements in background might have given the photo more POP!

Emotional Merit
Pros:
* Fresh subject. Definitely delicate and inline with the challenge.

Result
As you might already know, the lack of DOF is a serious issue with this picture as there is no place for the viewer's look to rest. Adding to that the fact that the greens in the background will atract more than the few sharp but cornered drops, this isn't a picture to look at for long.
Your result does seem fair, but I'm sure you will keep doing better and better.

All the best
Duarte Bruno

My impression of a classic still life makes subtle use of natural light or soft light. This seems like a flash was used or a hard light - and that seems to have made you lose some of the natural detail that I'd expect to see in this category.

I can see you took some time setting up your presentation. The arrangement overall is "ok" for me. Two things holding this back IMO is the lighting, it's quite harsh, and the bg, it's too close and has become part of the presentation. Just my personal observations. Good luck.

Greetings from the Critique Club!

Lovely tones of blue here, nice use of the moon for drama and illumination (to an extent anyway). Like that you did very basic editing, that's my fave too :-) I wonder about the high ISO, after all the wall did well for stability. I would've gone down pretty low in ISO, closed down the aperture and left the shutter open a lot longer.

The comp does look busy, you could almost split this horizontally into two separate shots. The sets of boats battle it out for your eye. Almost a little glare off of the sodium lights.

Overall, not a bad shot, just needs a little more work. Go forth and shoot!

Feel free to PM me with any questions,

Susan

Nice fruit, nice image -- personally I would have preferred a) bananas that don't look like they are ready for the grave and b) pinapples that were not beheaded. (Comment only, no vote)

Jepp, that's green. Tricky colour it is, too. I think this could be greener, but you've stayed true to the colour the plant is.
