I've seen those criss cross artifacts in a challenge before and did not know what caused them. I do now, as I saw it on my own computer recently. This is the result of doing a screen grab from the preview window of an HDR/tonemapping app. Probably Photomatix. Probably best to find some other way of achieving the look you want. They make a lite version of the app that is affordable, and there used to be a freeware version of lesser functionality that you can probably find if you ask around.

A second bird would have made this spectacular. As it is, the most prominent subject is two beach chairs, as the people are so effectively screened.
