Just because a member does not care for this, it is not fair to presume it lacked effort. I also disagree with the statement in general. The end result is what wins on this site, and is what matters in the real world. I can point out many high scoring photos that took minimal effort and many low scoring entries that took a lot of work, but did not come off with broad appeal. The point is to interpret the feedback and then decide for yourself if your entry was really lacking, or if you hit the intended target audience with it.

On this site we prefer to rate things on effort, not content. We also give encouragement. I encourage you to take mor ephotos, never give up, but try to make your shots a little more "magestic" the USM hotspots hurt the image quite a bit.

just a tad over processed in the curves/levels...IMO it has an unnatural color and tone...now if you converted this to B&W it would really work...your focus is spot on, but IMO the colors are off just a bit...

I think there are a few issues with this that will keep it pretty low in this challenge.

-Composition is too centered. The ducks are plopped right in the middle of the frame and my eye is not led anywhere.
-White balance may be off some, and could account for so much brownish tone, which is keeping the subject from standing out. Something is off with the colors.
-The detail on the ducks seems a little soft. I suspect this may have been an extreme crop.
-Ducks are just a difficult subject to do because they are so common. A duck shot must be really outstanding to get attention.

Sorry to be so harsh on your effort, but I hope this was at least useful.
