The reflected color was really ugly -- that's one reason I chose to make the water gray.

The black fabric is a little distracting. Perhaps using a smooth black fabric would have been better?

My simple suggestion is that I would have gone with B&W. The color in the shot doesn't add a whole lot, and in those cases I always think about B&W. The shot then becomes somewhat more about the geometry and shapes. I like your composition and especially like the diagonal line provided by the roller axle (or whatever). My eye tells me I don't like the blur of the central metal piece, but I think that's personal preference. I tend to have trouble with liking motion blur.

So you use 16/64 for your high-radius USM? I've tended toward 25/40, but I also tend to do it before resize so that may make quite a difference. I'll have to goof around with that.

Greetings from the CC, well this gets points I guess for experimental and creative. And knowing that you have been around here a long time, I suspect you knew this would not score high on dpc. I actually think this image is interesting, I think it may have worked much better tho as a vertical crop, partly cuz it is such a busy image it would of helped to focus the eye, in at least my opinion on the more interesting 'middle' part.
I suspect not possible but had you been able to get this a bit sharper, it would of looked IMHO like a jewel.
I also would like to see the 'white version'.

Hope that helps1
Lynn

A play on words... clever; the photo itself leaves something to be desired as it looks more like a receipt tape to me. What do I know?

The OOF coins at the back steal my attention from the one at the front too much
