I'd be interested to know what you saw here. Really.

Basically, I like complexly-constructed old machinery and buildings; this bridge is a bit of a different that usual drawbridge in that the whole center section rises vertically (instead of one end lifting), balanced by those huge concrete counterweights.

The second reason I liked the image was the challenge of taking it -- this was taken from a moving train, and is rather the counterpoint to a panning shot. In this case the camera is moving, and there's one and only one instant at which to capture this particular view/composition; one which is not available to the pedestrian photographer.

To get an almost-perfect composition (only a tiny bit of cropping needed) and a sufficient level of detail was under those conditions was, to me, a pretty good accomplishment. I knew well that none of this would be apparent to the voters or be factored into the score, but you asked ...

This was shot 4 seconds later (resized only):

An interesting demonstration of color determining a reality.

I want to see the blasted remains of a tree, but then sometimes I see a old marble column, then metal...whatever it is, it appears to have been looking over the scene for a good long while. The all-over blue actually has the effect of keeping us from being too distracted by the background

the white balance is way off, but you know I don't take much stock in such things. "off" is, in fact, making an assumption about what white balance ought to be. Why can't a picture be blue? I'm blue sometimes. This picture doesn't grab me, but I do like the splintery radial composition.

Yep, it's a well captured drawbridge, but it doesn't hold my interest.

Not terribly interesting like. Maybe with some dramatic lighting or a long exposure at night -- just needs something more.

I don't know what this is but with your blue toned WB, it looks like a great big icicle lol. Or a stalagmite... hmmm...
