Who Needs You Guys, Anyway?by GeneralEComment by JiaBob: This one made me stop and think. I like the concept of a loner bird, but frankly, I didn't get it at first. My eye was initially drawn to the high point. All those pigeons and the flaking paint on top of a dingy gray pillar. They are on top, but what good has come of their conquest? It is interesting to think about a bird or a person who doesn't seek what everyone else seeks and who maybe doesn't need their approval. So many people want to be at the top, and will climb any peak because it is there. Of course, many more never make it to the top. Some see no value in the attempt while others plod along like lemmings without giving a thought to the wisdom of the effort. The person who can be happy where he finds himself is the truly independent one. Interesting photo. You said all that and more without words, and I used all these words and said so little. |

Fragile Connectionsby GeneralEComment by Cory: Love these old windowed chips... I have a few in my collection, mostly old BIOSes. I do wish that you had gotten more of the whole thing in focus, but I can see that his was probably a very intentional decision, so I'll assume that you're showing me just what you want to show me... I just love it less than I would if more was in focus I think. |

These Parents Rockby GeneralEComment by Skip: One of my favorite type of newspaper assignments is to capture "wild art", which is defined as "Stand-Alone, Feature Shot, Enterprise art are found moments that are intended to be realistic slices of everyday life" (definition taken from this glossary). These are typically images that caption themselves, not needing a lot of words to get their point across. For this challenge, I'm scoring images as whether I'd like to see them on the front page of a paper as feel good wild art. If I don't think they would make the paper, I'm then asking myself, "does it make me feel good?" If it doesn't do much for me, well then, oh well...
Nice idea, love the sentiment. This situation could possibly have offered a more dynamic image, like if they were more expressive or active (clapping or taking a picture). |
