After Curfewby GeneralEComment by GeneralE: Thanks for all your comments. I think hbunch has my interpretation most correct -- this is a "negative" space in the societal as well as photographic context. Those tetherballs are surrounded by a space which should be filled with kids -- since I shot it right in the middle of the school day it's amazing I got a shot with no one in it except someone way off in the distant trees. I darkened the overall look to make it more depressing-looking; maybe a brightly-lit daytime scene with no kids would be better? After Curfewby GeneralEComment by Yomi: Everyone's gone home. Good shot. I like how the dark look is used in this shot to show that it's past curfew. good job. 7 |

After Curfewby GeneralEComment by jmsetzler: What I see in this image falls into my category of 'empty space' rather than 'negative space'. I don't necessarily believe that the two are the same... - jmsetzler |

After Curfewby GeneralEComment by HBunch: I looked for the subject, and concluded that it was the emply play area. That leaves the rest of the photo (the sky) to be the neg. space. However, if I look at it that way, then it's pretty boring. I then thought that you might have tried to convey negative space of the photo with negative space of the UNUSED play area. Unfortunately, I don't think they are the same, however, I wont count it against you for 2 reasons...1 not everyone went to college for art. and 2, this does portray a form of negative or "unused" space. so there...challenge met. lol. On to the photo. The lighting is great. I like the shadow of the tether ball in the front. The circles and lines make for nice patterns, and the sky is very nice. the angle and framing are excelent, and the focus and clarity are also very nice. Overall good photo! Good luck in the challenge. ~hbunch7187~ |

After Curfewby GeneralEComment by Gracious: Meets the challenge but could be improved imo. The horizon splits the image in half and could be better using the 3rds princple. Good luck in the challenge...it's a tough one! Grayce aka Gracious |
