Abstractions #001by rooumComment by bspurgeon: I see a face, set off by the aggressive color and texture, seems to be approaching a decision of some sort... |

Abstractions #001by rooumComment by EL-ROI: Wow!! If this is your first abstract, I can only imagine you will be putting on a workshop for all of us throughout the year! The color is very vivid, the wood grain adds great texture and the little knot looks like an eye!
Improvements?? If I could give any critque at all it would be to recompose to make the downward stroke of the woodstain to be in the right third of the image. That may not even have been possible.
Excellent job... How about a little backstory on the abstract to hear your thoughts on the image and setting it up?? |

In the garden of the silent singing sculpturesby rooumComment by littlegett: Interesting find. Though direct flash really does it no justice as does the straight on view. I would have liked a more creative perspective or camera angle to these trees. Also if possible off-camera lighting. Though I know that is not always an option. |

In the garden of the silent singing sculpturesby rooumComment by Paul: OK, I'm going through the Free Study submissions, purposefully finding those images I think are shot with a less conventional eye - this is one of those images! Thanks for offering something that isn't just DPC friendly eye-candy (though of course there's nothing wrong with eye-candy). I'll be picking one of these images for the Mu (most underrated) award:
Positives: I like the way this is more about shape and 'flow' than it is about the subjects themselves. The light is also effective and somewhat suggestive of care headlights - the feel you get when driving deserted roads at night. I like the coloration too - the near monochrome works very well.
Critical stuff: Somehow I wish it was a little softer to emphasise the flowing shape, a long exposure in the wind may have offered such an effect but then of course it would be a different image. I suppose I mean that the degree of sharpness you have offered here offers a little too much for the mood I get from the image.
Overall: An intriguing and effective image. |

The Overcoat.by rooumComment by Zigomar: Beautiful tones Clive, I like the pov being from behind the man's back, it keeps more interest and mistery in the scene. |
