Captiveby faidoiComment by Skip: this is one of those images that, if you really bother to look at it, will stick with you. the colors and the subject are wonderful, but then there's that damn fence. i love zoos, and all that they do, but every now and then, don't you just wish we didn't need them? excellent capture here, even if disturbing. i hope this isn't getting overlooked in this super-sized challenge, and that viewers are giving this the time necessary to appreciate it. thanks for sharing. good luck with this, and all the challenges yet to come! |

There are two ways to look at this. I would prefer to see the elephant without the fence, with more detail and with softer, more diffused light so the detail in the skin is not washed out. The fence does of course reflect that it is indeed a captive and brings an emotional response, but for me I would even then like to see better light and maybe a different angle. |

Pagodaby faidoiComment by blemt: I like the subject choice here. My chief problem is that the image seems a bit flat. By that I mean everything kind of blends into itself. I'm still struggling myself with creating more dynamic range in my black and white images- so I'm not sure what suggestions I can make that will help. It might be work trying it out with some different post processing options (duotone maybe). |

Captiveby faidoiComment by dwterry: I would like this so much better if the line didn't cut cross the elephant's eye.... (sorry, major pet peeve of mine is the either not see the eye, or have something intrude on it) |

Captiveby faidoiComment by Gaia: NIce clean focus and color on the elephant. I'd like to see what this photo would look like with a closer crop to take out the posts (or half the posts on each side of the picture. |

Pagodaby faidoiComment by milo655321: I like the subject, but the background is a little too bright for my tastes, especially since you went b/w. |

Captiveby faidoiComment by ahaze: Nice colors. The fencing unfortunately takes a lot of impact away from this photo. |

Captiveby faidoiComment by C-Fox: with this title would have prefered a tighter shot of head and truck |
