After The Partyby teacherphotoComment: Some party that was. On someones grave. looks like somebody desecrated the grave to me. Or does the title suggest that the life of the person buried there was a party and now he/she is dead and the party is over? Whatever..but the image comes across as having been taken without too much thought or effort having been put into it and is therefore little more then a snapshot. It does convey some feeling of silence though. 5 |

Stillnessby scooter88Comment: Beautiful shot with super dof and detail but it does not really convey to me a feeling of "Silence" 5 |

Silence of natureby ValaRunComment: Nice image reflecting tranquility and silence but I find the dark piece of land in the foreground and on the right hand side takes up a bit too much of the total image and is a little devoid of detail. 6 |

Solitudeby MQuinnComment: Nice tree shot especially with the setting sun (or is that rising sun?) just visible through the trees. The feeling of silence is well conveyed. 6 |

Eternal Silenceby ArmyRugbyComment: I guess what you are trying to convey here is that someone has just overdosed to end his/her life and therefore is eternally silenced. For me the image does not convey silence so much but it does convey that someone has attempted suicide and overdosed and is dead or dying. The mute switch in the background plays some role in all this as well I presume. And what is that brightly glowing ball?
Am I seeing the whole message in the wrong context? 5

In the cold, cold groundby BrennanOBComment: The feeling I get from this image is one of lost hope, being forlorn, love lost, despair, broken dreams etc. but not of "Silence' The image has been well executed though. 5 |

Of One Hand Clappingby oscarthepigComment: What is the Sound of the Single Hand? When you clap together both hands a sharp sound is heard; when you raise the one hand there is neither sound nor smell. Is this the High Heaven of which Confucius speaks? Or is it the essentials of what Yamamba describes in these words: "The echo of the completely empty valley bears tidings heard from the soundless sound?" This is something that can by no means be heard with the ear. If conceptions and discriminations are not mixed within it and it is quite apart from seeing, hearing, perceiving, and knowing, and if, while walking, standing, sitting, and reclining, you proceed straightforwardly without interruption in the study of this koan, you will suddenly pluck out the karmic root of birth and death and break down the cave of ignorance. Thus you will attain to a peace in which the phoenix has left the golden net and the crane has been set free of the basket. At this time the basis of mind, consciousness, and emotion is suddenly shattered; the realm of illusion with its endless sinking in the cycle of birth and death is overturned. The treasure accumulation of the Three Bodies and the Four Wisdoms is taken away, and the miraculous realms of the Six Supernatural Powers and Three Insights is transcended.
The way you have set up your photo is very nice, simple but with good composition and a real Zen feel to it. I wish you had not cropped the bottom part of the table legs.
For those who are into Zen this image certainly conveys a feeling of silence. 6 |
