It shone with a light that was otherworldly. In all his life, he'd never seen anything so different, so... alien.
In a world of black and white, the first shine of color became a legendary item of godly powers. | Photographer found comment helpful. |

Just geese.
Just geese.
When the next waves came, they were too busy fighting for their lives to think much about geese. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/01/2008 08:01:24 PM | Eos and Tithonusby lovethelightComment: It didn't take Old Man Burrows long to realize that he'd made the wrong career choice. "Be a Siren!" the ads said, "Live a life of song and adventure!" they said. "Bring wanderers to their doom and gorge on the meat of humanity!" They promised.
Old Man Burrows watched as one of his fellow workers prepared herself for another night of seduction and feasting and grumped. Few people ever came when HE sang, and of those that did, they all ran screaming away from him.
Yes, he'd definitely made the wrong choice. Sighing, he picked up the remains of a squirrel he'd managed to catch and gnawed on it. He was so stupid. |

However, rarely had it shone so bright, or so briefly. It burst in one moment, shone for a short time, and then faded as quickly as it had come.
Not much more was thought of it then, and life continued as it always had.
Until they came, and the sun never shone on humanity again. |
| 12/01/2008 07:49:54 PM | Dome IIby crabappl3Comment: When they uncovered the lost city, they were amazed at how immaculate the architecture remained. Searching through the ruins, one of the archeologists happened to look up.
"Look!" He exclaimed to his fellows, "I think there is ancient writing there!"
Over the next few months, they struggled to translate the strange markings. In the end, they concluded that it was a mark of naming. That this place was the Astex, an off-shoot of another civilization they'd discovered far south of this place.
They never did realize that the shiny circular metal cutting tools they found weren't sacrificial in nature, and had actually been used to get horses to obey. In fact, they were just pretty useless archeologists all around. |
| 12/01/2008 06:15:02 PM | Water Nymphsby Breeee123Comment: It was like a dream. A dream, yet so startingly real that Jonas gasped and blinked back the tears that suddenly formed.
He came to this spot every week, this spot where the accident had happened. This spot where his life had changed forever, where his greatest and most precious gifts had been torn from him. Every week he visited and dropped flowers into the waters, gifts for the girls he lost that day.
Yet today, as he stared into the dark and foreboding waters, as the flowers drifted there, a vision of the girls began to form, and he thought that his mind was playing tricks. Yet even blinking, and wiping his eyes, they remained, slowly appearing in the ripples, their faces and eyes, as if they had never been gone at all. Their hair flowing in the mini-currents, their smiles both lighting his heart, and tearing at his soul.
When he could blink back the tears no longer, they began to flow freely, and each drop of them upon the water began to obscure the faces of his children, and as they faded once more, he uttered a strangled cry and tried to reach out for them, but they were gone.
In a whisper that he was never entirely sure he really heard, they called to him. They told him that they would always live on, in him, in his memories and that they gave him permission to move on.
He knelt there for some time after the water faded back to darkness, and watched as the flowers drifted away. Soon the tears stopped, and he wiped his eyes and a sad smile crept to his face.
"I love you, will always love you, and miss you so much." He rose, and started on his journey not only home, but towards healing. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/01/2008 06:04:32 PM | The Riverby SaraRComment: Cyrian the Stout approached the bank. He had been traveling for weeks, and had faced all kinds of challenges, all kinds of enemies, and so far had defeated them all.
In front of him, however, was to be his greatest challenge yet. this lake was legendary for the evils that lived below its surface. To cross it, one had two choices. You could brave the stepping stones and deal with the tentacled horror that lived below the surface, or traverse the bridge and take your chances with the mage and his tasks he insisted you complete as toll.
Cyrian was a fighter. Not one for the mental tasks the mage required, and so had chosen the stepping stones. On the other side, the temple, wherein lay his goal, the Crown of Light. Breathing deep, Cyrian took his first step out onto the slick stones, and gathered his energy for the battle to come. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/01/2008 05:51:58 PM | Guardianby xianartComment: They knew it would be time to say goodbye soon, and that was never easy. He'd been there for her since before she could remember. He'd been there for her through the good, and the bad. Through the laughter, and the tears. Through the anger, and the joy.
There comes a time however, that we all recognize. That we all come to dread. That time when the quality of life begins to fade. When watching them struggle up a flight of stairs becomes a struggle in our hearts. When the soft whimpers as the do something as simple as lie down becomes a whimper in our very soul.
We make it as easy as we can for them then, and we hug them, and we love them, and we try our best not to let the sadness show. He'd been her guardian and her friend and her savior, and soon it would be time to let him go.
But not yet. She hugged him close and she hugged him tight, and in her eyes the knowledge of what was to come, but in her heart the joy of what was still there. Her guardian, her friend, her savior.
Her pet. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
| 12/01/2008 04:50:18 PM | we're all mad hereby firstkissComment: She slowly climbed down out of the clearing, and the White Rabbit stopped and stared.
"I'm.. I.. uh... late. That is, I mean.. Important. Late. I.." he stammered, as she continued to smile seductively and inch towards him, her body moving just so, each step over a branch or root revealing a glimpse along each silky, smooth, luci...
"No! I'm late for a very important date!!!!" It was more a screech than a statement, and he wanted to go, he had to go. The Queen would have his head, and why did she have the Mad Hatter's hat on anyway? This wasn't the Alice that had come through the hole. What was going on? Why could he not turn his gaze?
Closer, and closer she came, "I have a gift for you, my little bunny." Her voice soft, seductive, wonderful.
He stood rooted to the spot. This was not the Alice he remembered. She finally reached him, and stroked his fur, and his body reacted in a way that a White Rabbit's body should never react in a story of this nature, and he gave in to her charms, and he gave himself to this Alice that was not Alice, this succubi.
So it was that he never noticed the blood stains, or the carving knife she drew out of her bodice, and when it was over, and the White Rabbit was now far more than just White, Wonderland discovered the true meaning of the Cheshire Cat's statement that "We are all mad here."
Some, sometimes, just go a little more mad than most. | Photographer found comment helpful. |
