I think that overall I fell into the trap of trying to re-create a shot that I captured of this scene earlier in the year. I pass this on my commute and in Winter this coincides with sun-rise so the light is more striking.
The composition is too busy and the scene has an overall 'muddy' feel...
Examples from dawn to illustrate my point... not perfect but better candidates with better separation of the boat and bridge (or isolating the bridge completely)

I think either of these would have fared better, especially the isolated bridge. The issue with the entry is not only the comp, but the b/w conversion. |
